Ours is essentially a tragic age, so we refuse to take it tragically. The cataclysm has happened, we are among the ruins, we start to build up new little habitats, to have new little hopes. It is rather hard work: there is now no smooth road into the future: but we go round, or scramble over the obstacles. We’ve got to live, no matter how many skies have fallen.

I need to update my ‘Blogs to Follow” page. If you have any suggestions or would like to submit your own tumblr, let me know right here

Sometimes fate is like a small sandstorm that keeps changing directions. You change direction but the sandstorm chases you. You turn again, but the storm adjusts. Over and over you play this out, like some ominous dance with death just before dawn. Why? Because this storm isn’t something that blew in from far away, something that has nothing to do with you. This storm is you. Something inside of you. So all you can do us give in to it, step right inside the storm, closing your eyes and plugging up your ears so the sand doesn’t get in, and walk through it, step by step.

And once the storm is over you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, in fact, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm you won’t be the same person who walked in.

As happens sometimes, a moment settled and hovered and remained for much more than a moment. And sound stopped and movement stopped for much, much more than a moment.

jimmywestenberg asked: Hi there. To start, I really enjoy everything that you post. I think Tumblr would be a better blogging site if there were more people like you, and less people that use it to post dumb internet memes. If I may ask, is there any Tumblr page that you would recommend that has a similar aim? Thanks for the help!

I’m so flattered. :) Thank you, I’m glad your enjoying the posts. There are plenty of smart internet memes on tumblr now. I’d suggest checking those out. There are several for english majors and writers, journalism majors, politicos, etc.

Oh dear, hold onto your seat for this. Thou asketh for similar and thou shalt haveth it, in abundance. There are so many different genres and subgenres of lit-related tumblrs, so I’ll try to point you in the general directions, as there seem to be two majors: photography & written word. It’s times like these that I wish tumblr had a handy-dandy flow chart tab.

iheartclassics: Definitely the best tumblr I’ve encountered. The ratio of writing/picture/book news is well crafted.
theelectrictypewriter: Essays by authors and journalists
the-final-sentence: Self explanatory; collection of final sentences
lineone: Laws of the internet dictate that if you have a tumblr about the closing sentence there must also be one for the opening
awritersruminations: Hearty collection of quotes

Plenty of tumblrs center around the photography of books and libraries, but these are some of the ones worth following: bookpornteachingliteracybooklover, librarianista, libraryporn

There are also quite a lot of tumblrs dedicated to specific authors, writing periods, author portraits, but quite a few of them are dead now. The tumblrs, not the authors… well, sometimes.
